Melena, born in Havana Cuba, has mastered the traditional rhythms that have traveled from Africa to Cuba, to the dance floors of America. Her Afro-Cuban sound is a conversation of melodies which she plays with fierce passion wether she is on Congas, Timbales, Batas, or Shekere. Melena is a multi-talented performer and educator of Afro/Cuban Music History for all levels and special needs students as well. Her original screenplay about her life, “A Musical Journey into my Afro Cuban Roots” has been selected for stage presentation in April 2012. She is an artist who exemplifies the sound of legendary players from the past, to the modern sound of today.
